I

Introduction

Hi, I’m Samuel.

I’ve spent the last three years working with natural aromatics, and along the way I started to perceive scents in a completely different way.

I think it’s a bit like language: your ears hear the sounds, but you only really hear the words once you know what they mean.

Scents are similar: once you learn to recognise and name them, a whole landscape opens up.

And the enjoyment of that landscape is what I’d like to share.

In exchange, I’m interested in your opinion, in where your curiosity lies and, if you like, in your company for smelling and blending.

Right now I’m thinking about making a kit that lets you blend scents yourself. At the moment the format looks like this:

Sets of 6 scent materials each, and sets with everything you need to mix them into a roll-on or a spray.

A place online where you can keep track of:

- which materials you have
- how they go together
- how you’ve mixed them

TopHeartBase

Different aromatics evaporate at different speeds. The most volatile shape a perfume’s first impression and form the top notes. After a few minutes the heart notes come through and slowly lead into the base notes, which last longest. Composition usually starts with this base, and the heart and top notes are built on it.

Questions

A few quick questions.

All of them are optional – they’re just for my curiosity :)

Have you ever mixed perfume yourself?

Real sandalwood is expensive, and the tree is protected. But there are lab-made materials that smell very similar. Which would you prefer?

How many materials would you like to start with?

How would you most like to wear scent?

Would you like to smell the scents you chose together — in small groups in Darmstadt, or online?

Do you know Samuel personally?

I’ll use it to send you the overview of what others chose, and a message if the kit becomes real. Nothing else. Privacy
